It remains a key part of our program. But building self sustaining enterprises which support people for the long term is an important goal of Network Heaven as well. We have seen success with the mushroom farms. And our contacts in Sri Lanka advise there are opportunities for barbers and hairdressers to derive an income this way. However in order to give a decent haircut they need equipment which is beyond their ability to pay. Maybe you can help.480_hair-cutting-scissors.png

They are some of the poorest paid workers in the country, working in what they call ‘low country tea’ estates. Have a look here for all you ever wanted to know about production of tea in Sri Lanka.

It is that time of the year again and we are gearing up for the annual “push”  - preparing gifts and goods, and getting them loaded on the container and off to Sri Lanka. But there has been great scope for us to help establish something sustainable and enduring, helping these people to develop their own income and independence. We were very fortunate to have some funds recently donated which have been used to establish mushroom farms, the products of which are now earning their owners a regular income - along with other vegetables they are able to sell at the front gate of the local school.

The next step is to have them register their little enterprises as Businesses. This will allow them to deliver to the local restaurants and hotels. Very exciting for them. And empowering and liberating.
